Evaluation Question 5

When I was presented with the task of his project I was eager to get started as I have a passion for filming and found the idea of making my own music video the perfect opportunity. I had a variety of ideas at the start and found it difficult to decide which song to choose as I knew I would do a combination of a live performance and narrative. Finally I decided to choose the song “My Kind of Love” by Emeli Sande as her music is full of emotion and meaning, the original video had an interesting narrative focussing on friendship and loyalty.
For my video I also wanted to represent friendship but with a twist, the meaning behind my version refers to being loyal to those you care the most about, being there for them no matter what. Within my narrative video the audience would assume the male and female models are a couple however they only talk no close interactions, if you want to represent a romantic couple you would have the two closer together, in my video the two have a bit of distance to show they are friends, listening to the lyrics the meaning of friendship and being loyal is almost acting as a voice over. However looking at my actress she shows signs of wanting to be more than friends as represented in the lyrics “you will feel my kind of love”.
Overall I am pleased with my music video and have learned new techniques through the variety of technologies which I have used, such as Adobe Premier I learned more about this software placing tags to pin-point the beat, editing my footage such as enhancing the colour or brightness. I have also learned through Adobe Photoshop how to cut out an image smoothly with the tool of colour range, this technique allowed me to have a clearer photo.

Diary Entry 29

I have completed question two with the use of Slideshare Powerpoint allowed me to separate each section. Question four was completed with Prezi as there were many sections to cover I believed Prezi was the best option. For question five I will do a blog video summerising the whole video making experience.

Evaluation Question 4

Evaluation Question 3

I have decided to use Blogger as a form of media to present my evaluation reponce to question three, looking back at my target audience, stating what I have learned through my feedback and how I recieved my feedback.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

When planning my music video I thought about my target audience, with the themes I was going to explore, my target audience had to be at a mature age near adulthood. I decided to aim towards teenagers to begin with but this idea changed as this was not specific, I decided the more appropriate age for my target audience would be 16-26 years old. As I believe they will be able to understand the emotional aspects within my video, such as the live performance of my model, you can see a variety of emotion as she sings making the song personal along side with the narrative the audience will see the emotion she is portraying. Also I find the emotion found in the lyrics will be picked up by my target audience as they would be able to relate to how the performer is feeling or they can imagine being in her position.
I believe 16-26 year olds will understand my music video more and the theme represented throughout. Another reason why this is an appropriate age range is the level of independence, going out to various locations with friends is more common at 16 while going into a busy place such as Central London shows more independence which 16 year olds strive towards, 18 year olds have this level of independence this is emphasized more as the individual grows and matures.
I received my audience feedback through the use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter I posted a link of my draft version of my music video onto Facebook, in order to get feedback from people in the age range of my target audience. This proved most effective as within minutes up uploading I received responses commenting on the composition of the image, the layout structure and an overall comment of the video but most of all feedback was mainly in regards to the lighting effects. Facebook proved most useful for my audience feedback in comparison to uploading the video onto Twitter, I was able to receive more views through Twitter but with little response, this could be due to Twitter’s word count which could explain why I received few pieces of feedback.
Looking over my audience feedback, suggestions were made in regards to a narrative to be added to strengthen the live performance and to put more emphasis on my meaning and the lyrics. I have responded to this feedback by adding a narrative which was filmed at a significant location in Central London, I have also taken into consideration the response by Sam Weight, to use more varied angles. With my narrative I have used more pans at different angles to focus on different areas of my performer and to capture the emotion she is showing.
Feedback is most important in the process of constructing a music video, you are able to get another person’s opinion who does not know as much about the video as the person creating it. Receiving feedback from people in my target audience allowed me to see if the video appeals to their interests and if not I would be able to make improvements. Overall I found audience feedback most useful for my music video as I was able to make improvements to where it was needed, making my video and meaning of my music video stronger.

Diary Entry 28

I am currently working on my evaluation so far I have answered question one and question three, I will use a variety of medias for each section. For question one I have used Prezi to assist in breaking the evaluation into three sections, while question three was uploaded stright onto Blogger to show Blogger is a form of media this way I can cover all areas of technologies.

Final Music Video

After receiving aditional audience feedback I decided to make alterations to my music video, this is now my final  version and I am more pleased with the result. I have added a clear narrative depicting the relationship between the couple while still relating to the lyrics, furthermore this new version still relates to my previous ideas and I find the audience will be able to understand the narrative more and relate to it.
I have made alterations to my performers outfit by removing the purple coat and instead wears a black coat as I find the audience will be able to recognize her more through each shot going between the live performance and the narrative. I also found in my second draft the narrative was not as clear, I felt there were not many filler shots showing why the couple have an argument also the reason behind their break up. In addition I am pleased with the dramatic end as the couple argue as you can almost read their lips and recognizing what they are saying to each other, I find these shots build up the climax of the song till we see him walk away and the female is left alone in the narrative and in the live performance almost mirroring each other.

Evaluation Question 2

I have used Slideshare to present my evaluation responce adding to the variety of medias in my blog posts.

Evaluation Question 1

I have used Prezi to answer question one of my evaluation going through each stage breaking it down to camera, editing, sound and mise-en-scene. Looking back at theorists such as Andrew Goodman.

Diary Entry 26

I have added more to my research and have successfully uploaded my digi-pak design, I am pleased with my design as there are clear references to my music video in the type of colour scheme. I have also completed my final version of my music video I will upload the video soon along side with my evaluation.

Final Digi-Pak

Here is my final design for my digi-pak, as you can see I have followed the conventions of the album designs in my research but I have also added my own ideas such as a flower vine of the back cover to add to the romance in my artist's songs. The design has also been placed on the CD this was to add a relevant design to the space as leaving only text made the disc appear unfinished, using the vine design added consistency to my design.
I have kept the idea of placing a large photo of my artist on the front cover, this is to put more emphasis on her and to make the album stand out, changing my arranged idea of a black and white image on the front cover. Instead I have used colour as there was little detail to the image I found this out as I manipulated the design. Keeping the photo in colour has produced detail and is effective for the front cover.
On the inside cover I placed a copy of the copyright details on the lower part of the image, in addition I have included a comment about life, mentioning how we learn from our mistakes to develop more as a person, by including this I believe there is more emphasis on the songs also to refer to my own music video and my music video's meaning.
I am pleased with my digi-pak design as the design relates to the genre and incorporates well with my music video which uses a variety of lighting effects.

“Sometimes the best moments in life take a while to come, but if you keep looking forward eventually they will catch up. As you grow you learn more about yourself, making mistakes is one way to learn.”

Advertisement Poster

Here is my final advertisement poster I have kept to my draft version by having a large image of my artist on the front cover in colour making her stand out, social network has been proven to be effective in advertisemnt as there is a diverse range of audiences using social media. Facebook and Twitter have been most effective this is why I have included a Facebook Page and a Twitter page for my artist. In addition a scan box for the indiciduals who use the new app, they are able to scan and be transfered to the information page or be shown information/advertisement.
I have also included comments from popular companies such as The Telegraph, Guardian and The Rolling Stones, each rating the album out of five stars. The fonts used are of the same design as my sub heading using a caligraphy style font adds a romantic genre which is found in Emeli Sande's album. Also an italic font to make key pieces of detail and names stand out, such as the song chosen for my music video; "My Kind of Love" is in italics making it stand out to the audience. Also key information is underlined placing more focus on the area. Having a black shadow around the silver text separates the text from the tonal background.
Furthermore the name of my artist is written in italics making her the main priority with the additional gold font to stand out the most makes her name more attractive to the eye.

Construction of Digi-pak

Here is part of the photoshop process which I have used in my digi-pak, I have mentioned how I have enhanced my image such as the use of manipulating the levels, brightness and contrast of a image. I have focussed on how I was able to trim the outline of my chosen image clearly without the need of the magnetic tool, instead using the colour range to get a smoother cut.

Advertisement Draft

Here is my advertisement design similar to my research I have drafted a magazine poster page consisting of review comments from the Telegraph, RollingStones and Guardian. Keeping the colour scheme consistent I have used silver texts to make the model stand out more, while the name of my artist Emeli Sande is in italics making her name more clear therefore recognisable to the audience, in addition the font is in gold making the title more noticeable. Underlining the title of the album makes it stand out in comparison with the other texts in a silver shade; a black shadow outlines the silver font separating it from the tonal background.
I have also included references to Emeli Sande's twitter page and Facebook page, with the additional scan box to appeal to a variety of ages and audiences through social network. I kept her image in colour to prevent the model blending into the background; this makes her stand out more alongside with her name in gold.

Digi-pak Design Draft

Here is a rough drawing of my digi-pak design including annotations as a reminder during the constructing process on Photoshop. I have decided to use the continuous conventions found in the Soul genre, during my research I have found, majority of album covers use a black and white colour scheme to have more dynamic images. With Emeli Sande's album I have noticed the use of italics making the cover eye-catching to the audience as the name stands out. Placing a large image of the artist on the front cover is the main aspect of which catches the publics attention, I believe having my model keep her eyes open will gain more attention as she would appear to be looking out to the audience.

Using vine patterns around the frame adds a romantic theme which corresponds to Emeli Sande’s music, manipulating the image to a transparent design adds an elegant design. The fonts will mainly be in a calligraphy style in a silver colour making them compliment the black background. While a golden colour will be used to highlight the artist’s name, making it stand out in addition the name will be in a different font creating variation with the other texts.

Digi-pak Designs

I have researched into digi-paks from the Soul music genre, looking at a variety of styles from different artists. This has allowed my own ideas to develope as I am still constructing my own digi-pak.

Diary Entry 18

I have uploaded my music video analysis from a different genre, I have now completed my analysis of other digi-pak designs of a similar genre to my artist Emeli Sande. This will help in constructing the rest of my digi-pak.

Video Analysis Of A Different Genre

I decided to do an analysis of a music video which is different to the Soul music genre which I am focussing on in my music video. Going from a different approach I have done an anlysis of the song "If Today Was Your Last Day" by the rock band Nickelback. I found the gave me the opportunity to see the conventions of an opposite style however the I noticed similaritiers between this music video and my own ideas.
