Diary Entry 10

Research into My Artist: Emeli Sande

Research into Existing Digipaks

Katy Perry’s album “Teenage Dream” relates to her specific genre of Pop the design of her album putting emphasis on the title the fantasy design of candy floss clouds and the CD’s themselves having a sweet pattern also by having the album appear to look like a world made of sweets relates to the idea of a dream.
The sweet cloud is extended through the cover and on the inside booklet keeping a consistent design, with the added feature of coloured sweets to create words such as the title of the album by having the words “Teenage Dream” slightly melting adds to the theme of sweet desserts. The CD’s have a doughnut design and a hard sweet design almost making the dream of everything being made of sweets become a reality.
The colour scheme chosen mainly consists of pink, white and red these colours are more feminine making this album appeal to the female population on the other hand the images used of Katy Perry makes her appear to be a sexual symbol this appeals towards the male population. A “Teenage Dream” can pinpoint her target audience being young with the types of songs selected for the album are quite fun and relates to her pop genre.

Michael Jackson’s album “This Is It” was released almost as a memorial due to his death it features new songs which he was meant to perform during his concerts. The silhouetted image of him with thumbnail images inside shows the concert, the front cover represents the more frequent dance moves he used throughout his years almost his trademark.
The choice of colour scheme revolves around bright imaging almost a heaven atmosphere this corresponds with the album being released after his death
The is also a booklet about Michael Jackson’s life including images about the concert, wallets were used to hold the CD’s rather than the use of a jewel case design which uses a plastic under laying fix to hold the CD in place.

Rihanna’s album “Loud” has a interesting design as the images of her represent a sexual side to the artist the images have her eyes closed almost a peaceful image however the title of the album is “Loud” this goes against the image of her. The colours used are mainly red which corresponds with love, passion and lust however can also represent danger.
There is a consistent theme of red and roses this is quite feminine this pinpoints the target audience however the poses used by the artist show a different side to her a more sexual figure this appeals to the male population making the album appeal to male and female audiences. Even the CD’s have a rose design this keeps the design consistent and relevant to the album.

Planning Idea: I have organised a date where I will begin filming the new footage for the introduction. Before I used an indoor location as a living room setting would place the character in a friendly environment where she feels comfortable when she plays on her piano, with the use of a green screen I will be able to manipulate the background to a simple design my idea for this is to use a black background to make the artist stand out more and creates a calm setting which adds a soft touch to the piano.

Diary Entry 5

Emeli Sande- 'My Kind of Love' Original Video

Equipment Choices

Types of Cameras

Canon 550D
-Small/ portable
-Requires a SD card

Sony HD
-Creates a steady shot however not on rough surfaces
-High quality and has a zoom in option
-Uses a DV tape this however takes long to upload

SLR Cannon (Steady Cam)
-Handles shots clear
-perfect for creating a personal point of view
-Light and agile to use

I plan to use spotlighting to create a dynamic image by placing the lights on the floor I will be able to create a combination of soft imagery and strong composition with the use of shadow tones. I believe the lights will add to the quality of the live performance making my artist stand out also making her the centre of attention. Using a Steady Cam I will be able to have clear transitions and be able to move freely around my performer during the shoot, holding the camera in place will assist in minimalize camera shake.
A combination of a tripod and a Cannon 550D will create a secure position which will add a variety of compositions throughout my video.

Diary Entry 3

I have comprised a list for my music video, this includes locations for different scenes, style of clothing for my actor/actress and equipment I will use. I have also written more to my script based on the position of the camera for each scene.
